Ellen Degeneres is known for her funny humor, kind heart and overall being a great host. But with everything going on around Harvey Weinstein and sexual harassment in general, people need to be careful with their humor and the photos they post. Even if they didn’t mean any harm by it.
Recently, the host is facing a bit of backlash for tweeting out a photo in honor of Katy Perry’s birthday. The photo is from 2013 and it shows Ellen standing with her wife, Portia de Rossi, and Perry. The comedian is staring at the signer’s breasts.
Some people weren’t too fond of the photo, calling it sexist and inappropriate. While others were more bothered by the caption that Ellen used. Ellen wrote, “Happy Birthday @KatyPerry! It’s time to bring out the big balloons!”
Ellen got that caption from Katy’s 2013 hit song “Birthday” but fans didn’t seem to really care. They felt that the photo was a double standard and felt that it was insensitive.
Some people felt that it was insensitive in regards to the recent sexual harassment allegations that were made against Harvey Weinstein. Some believe it was pretty bad timing on Ellen’s part.
People didn’t seem to hold back on letting Ellen know that she crossed the line with her post. One fan writing “WTF? Ellen Weinstein? @TheEllenShow totally unacceptable”.
Another user added, “I have lost respect for Ellen after seeing this. What a terrible example to set for so many young girls who look up to Ellen. Sad.”
