Those life hack photos and videos that randomly pop up on our social media feed have been pretty big lifesavers. It was from one of those lists that I learned you can clean out an old ketchup bottle and use it for pancake batter for easy cleanup and as a better way to control the amount of batter spilled onto the pan. (If you’re anything like me, these things come in handy.)

HouseholdHacker has been an active channel on YouTube since 2007 and in that time he has garnered over four million followers. He’s already uploaded several videos of him finding ancient, but still useful, life hacks (such as one from 100 years ago) but he didn’t travel that far back into the past in his latest video.

On September 2 he uploaded a video of him discovering a 60-year-old life hack book and he tried a bunch of tips to see if they still hold up this many decades later. (Spoiler alert: they do.)

First on the list was the hack that suggested how to clean your paintbrush.

Fill a jar with soapy water and dip your dirty brush inside. To hold it in place, you can use a magnet.

Not too shabby so far.
